TATA STEEL is one of example of an Ethical companies



Tata Steel Limited is an Indian multinational steel making company having its headquarters in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. This is often subsidiary of Tata group. It is the one of the best steel producing company globally.

Tata steel has presence in 26 countries with key operations in India, United Kingdom and Netherland and employees around 80,000.
Tata steel has been recognized as world’s one among the foremost ethical companies by the Ethisphere institute. Tata steel has been recognized by the ethisphere, USA seven times earlier also on an equivalent parameter.

So, before further explaining I would like to get familiar with the terms Ethical and Unethical in business.

Ethical word in organizations means avoiding activities that do harm to people or the environment. On the opposite side the term Unethical means indulging in business practices which are morally unacceptable.

Ethical companies should normally follow the following principals:

·       Maximize the sustainability of the products for a longer period of time.
·       Should respect and promotes human rights.
·       Enrich the living standard of employees and maximize their potential.
·       Protect the environment as do CSR (corporate social responsibility).
·       Inclusive growth and development.
·       Values to the customers.
·       Not indulge in corrupt practices.



 TATA’s Business Ethics:
It has been noticed that TATA STEEL is one of the company who follows the above principals, due which till the date TATA STEEL is one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies.

  • ·        Financial reporting and records:-prepare and maintain its accounts fairly with the accounting and financial of the company.
  • ·         Competition:-  fully support the event and operation of competitive open markets.
  • ·        Equal opportunities employer:-provide equal opportunities to all employees.
  • ·        Gifts and donations:- its employees neither receive nor offer or make, directly or indirectly, any illegal payments, remunerations, gifts, donations or comparable benefits.
  • ·        Government agencies:- A Tata Company and its employees doesn’t offer or give any company funds or property as donations to any agency or its representative (unless mandated under applicable laws).
  • ·        Political non-alignment:-committed to and support the constitution and governance systems of the country within which it operates.
  • ·        Health, safety and environment:- Tata Company is striving to provide a secure, healthy, clean and ergonomic working environment.
  • ·         Quality of products and services:- committed to supply goods and services of excellent quality standards, backed by sale services consistent with the need of consumers.
  • ·        Law of the land committed to follow and base its operations consistent with law of the land.
  • ·         Cooperation of Tata companies:-cooperate with other Tata companies.
  • ·        Regulatory compliance:- employees of Tata in their business conduct suits all applicable laws and regulations.


A Company to achieve business should follow the moral principles and will be fair in its conduct. The target of the corporate shouldn't be to realize profits through any ways but it should be supported ethical ways to maximise its profits and enhance their brand image.
Tata Steel is one such name which have earned it over a period of your time.

  3. TATA Steel is well known household and corporate brand in business arena. The corporate responsibility and ethics shown by TATA in more than 100 years of its establishment, is well cosidered and appreciated by Government, Public, Rating agencies and Industries players. TATA has wings for delivering its social welfare and corporate responsibility through TSRDS and Ratan Tata Trust, since decades.
    Appreciated the effort of Sameer Srivastava to focus the ethical and corporate responsibility part of Tata steel. My best wishes to him to write such kind of good blogs, which is still less touched.

    1. CSR stands for corporate social responsiblity
      means every firm or organisation has to contribute some portion of there revenue towards development of the society. example : providing school for BPL peoples.
